History of my Model Railway

October 2000

I have a lot of tank cars, so I want to have a refinery. Normally there is no space for it on my layout, so I was looking for a place to build a track with a small fuel plant. I found some space in a corner. The photo shows some provisional placed buldings.

To place the Vollmer filling station, I had to cut some of the backside (red arrow). I used a flex track to build some light curves. So are the cars able to run trouble-free. The second filling station is from Piko (green arrow). The track ends without a buffer stop in front of the background wallpaper. It looks if the track will be goes on there. Just before the end of the track is a railroad crossing without gates (blue arrow).

A few tanks, two filling stations and a patrol station in front of a wallpaper with green grass looks very misplaced. I scanned the Vollmer refinery in the catalog and printed it with a color printer three times. Then I glued it onto the background, the optical impression is enormous. The other printings came from MZZ. At last it looks like a big refinery.

The signal box in my main station is from Kibri. I had installed some signals from Viessmann. The decoders are inside the building. Later I will write in chapter 11 a detailed instruction how to do that.

I have to place to build a real town. The backgrounds from MZZ are a good substitute. A background with green hills would be looks absurd.

A steam locomotive 012 is waiting with lighted passenger cars. The platform is also lighted, but the roofs and some details like peaople and benchs are still missing. The lang wall underneath has now some green plants.

The station in the curve is nearly ready. New is the car park and the street with copplestone pavement.
